An intelligent look at the impacts of Orientalism and cultural appropriation on new age, spirituality and pagan practices.
New Age Capitalism: Making Money East of Eden
Kimberly J. Lau
Beautiful poetry by Sappho. I've heard some reasonable criticisms of Carson erasing Sappho's sapphicness, but this translation is pretty nice, so take that as you will. Another reason to get it second-hand, I suppose.
If Not, Winter: Fragments of Sappho
Sappho, trans. Anne Carson
A bit hard to read through, but a useful resource for making your own festival calendar.
The Sacred and Civil Calendar of the Athenian Year
Jon D. Mikalson
An in-depth look at Athenian folk religion. It's very handy to learn about non-state religion.
Athenian Popular Religion
Jon D. Mikalson
A hefty book that goes into very nice detail about Ancient Greek magic.
Drawing Down the Moon: Magic in the Ancient Greco-Roman World
Radcliffe G. Edmonds III
A collection of magic spells, complete with accompanying drawings. A lot of the spells need adjustment for modern practitioners since they can require animal or human body parts. Most, if not all, of the love spells are disturbing, so be warned.
The Greek Magical Papyri in Translation, Including the Demotic Spells, Volume 1
Hans Dieter Betz
A pretty handy, more overview-style look at Ancient Greek religion. A decent place to start. Not too jargon-y, in my opinion.
On Greek Religion
Robert Parker
An expert look at Ancient Greek magic. Fairly detailed. I was able to pull things from this for my own practices. Can discuss the more unsavory, disturbing love spells, so be aware of that.
Magika Hiera: Ancient Greek Magic and Religion
Dirk Obbink and Christopher A. Faraone
Another useful book about Ancient Greek usage of plants and herbs.
The Mythology of Plants: Botanical Lore from Ancient Greece and Rome
Annette Giesecke
A much-needed recent look at the practice of depicting Ancient Greek gods as non-human, non-animal. Gives you a lot of ideas for worship.
Aniconism in Greek Antiquity
Milette Gaifman
A detailed look at Asklepios, god of medicine. Can be dense and is a bit outdated.
Asklepios: Archetypal Image of the Physician's Existence
Karl Kerényi
A detailed look into Hekate. I found it very insightful and useful in worshipping her.
The Goddess Hekate
Stephen Ronan
Mostly primary sources, has some earth mother goddess Robert Graves style BS in the introduction.
Arcana Mundi: Magic and the Occult in the Greek and Roman Worlds; A Collection of Ancient Texts
Georg Luck
A very dense look at individual deities mentioned within the Greek Magical Papyri.
The Concepts of the Divine in the Greek Magical Papyri
Eleni Pachoumi
Another good general look at Ancient Greek religion.
